SA team stay clear at Africa Zone VI

South Africa remain in the driver’s seat after the morning foursomes on day two of the Africa Zone VI Golf Championships at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate on Tuesday.
After securing eight points in Tuesday’s singles, South Africa took a 1.5 point lead over Kenya into the second round of Africa’s largest team competition.
Zander Lombard and Louis Taylor drew first blood with an eagle at their 12th hole to seal a 7 & 6 victory over Ki Dube and Sipho Ahueng from Botswana.
New caps Jason Smith and Stefan Cronje whipped Samuel Languene and Antonio Tcheco from Mozambique 8 & 6, and Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Nj N.j. Arnoldi took the team’s tally to 11 points.
The Ekurhuleni pair mowed down James Pennington and Jabulane Mabaso from Swaziland 6 & 4.
Thriston Lawrence and Gerlou Roux were tested by Namibia, but managed to hold off Eli Mbang and Gabriel Shikodi to win the game 3 & 1.
The defending champions top the log with 12 points ahead of this afternoon’s fourballs.
Zimbabwe moving into second on nine points after also scoring full marks.
Christian Mbanga and Visitor Mapwanya beat Lesotho 5 & 3, Jack Allard and Stuart Krogg held off Uganda’s top combination to win 2-up and Travis Smith and Pride Sembo rallied with a 4 & 3 result against Kenya.
Tonderai Masungo and Clive Nguru claimed the team’s fourth point when they beat Zambia 2 & 1.
Namibia won three games to catch Kenya, who slipped from second on the first round log after winning just one game in the foursomes. 
The two countries were joined by Mauritius and Swaziland in third on 7.5 points.
Malawi also made a substantial move after winning three games to fourth in the standings with six points.
