The Western Province gave a convincing performance in Tuesday’s foursomes at the South African Inter-Provincial at Rustenburg Golf Club, while the remaining A-Section teams squared off in the country’s premier team championship, sponsored by Tempest.

Smarting after their first round loss to KwaZulu-Natal, the joint defending champions forced three games to stalemate while Ian Snyman and SA IPT veteran Cameron Johnston defeated Lanny Davids and Ivan Williams 3 & 2 to give Province a 2.5 – 1.5 cushion ahead of the singles.

Meanwhile Boland, who were crushed by the Garden Route side in the opening round, squared off against Gauteng North 2-2 and 2009 champions KwaZulu-Natal also drew level with Central Gauteng, the winners in 2010.

In the B-Section, local favourites North West and Eastern Province will begin the singles on equal footing after two wins and two losses apiece.

Limpopo, who fell to Ekurhuleni and North West in the first round, will be wanting to convert a 3-0 lead over Border into victory and to gain the upperhand over Free State and Northern Cape, after the teams finished drew 2-all in the foursomes.

The Free State side will take a comfortable lead into their singles against Border after losing just a half point in the foursomes.

Heinrich and Stephan Erasmus beat Justin Meister and Lwazi Gqira 5 & 4, Marius Nel and Rian Coetzee combined for a 3 & 2 result, Burger Heckroodt and Theuns Pieters won 3 & 2 while Josef Fourie and Hendrik Burger halved against Andre Nel and Charl Joubert.
