GolfRSA National Squad player Matt Saulez and SA recent cap Malcolm Mitchell have been selected to represent South Africa in two world-class international events this November.

The KwaZulu-Natal duo will head to Argentina where they will team up in the Juan Carlos Tailhade Cup at the Los Lagartos Country Club from 2-5 November. The pair will then compete as individuals in the 112th Argentine Amateur Open Championship at the Jockey Club from 16-19 November.

“We are confident that Matt and Malcolm are well-equipped up for the task,” said South African Golf Association (SAGA) president Geoff Taylor.

“We were very impressed with their recent international debut in the Fellowship Cup Test against India in August. They combined well in the Betterball format and won both their singles to finish the week at Leopard Creek unbeaten.

“Both players also made significant strides in the Open Amateur rankings this season. Malcolm has had 11 top 10 finishes, including a recent victory in the KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Match Play and has climbed to third in the current standings, while Matt has risen to fifth, courtesy third place finishes in four events and six top fives,.

“We are confident that we have selected the two most deserving candidates to challenge the world-class fields heading to Argentina.”

GolfRSA CEO Grant Hepburn applauded the selection and said the duo deserved the honour of representing South Africa on the world stage.

“Malcolm and Matt have shown commitment, determination and a healthy dose of aggression to rise through the ranks in the last year and these are exactly the traits these world class events in Argentina will demand,” Hepburn said.

“The two events in South America are highly favoured by the world’s top amateurs. It is wonderful when you have such depth of talent at our disposal and these two championships presents fantastic opportunity for Malcolm and Matt to expand their experience on the international stage. We are delighted to give these talented golfers the chance to test themselves against top international competitors.”
