KwaZulu-Natal took advantage of a third round bye on Wednesday to launch a strong bid to catch the B-Section log leaders, Eastern Province, at the 54th South African Inter-Provincial, sponsored by Tempest, on Wednesday.

KwaZulu-Natal lags two points behind Eastern Province in the standings after losing to the leaders at Westlake Golf Club on Tuesday.

The 2010 champions stepped up their bid in the battle of promotion with a clean sweep against Limpopo in the Foursomes.

Rookies Siyanda Mwandla and Leorin Pillay beat Nico Myburgh and Conrad van Baalen 5&4 and Matt Saulez and Malcolm Mitchell added another point with a 4&3 result against Stefan de Beer and Cameron Nesmith.

Derek Scullard partnered Greg Upneck to a 2&1 win against Hilton Hughes and Morne Myburgh, while Kevin Rundle and captain Gavin Sole sealed the whitewash by whipping brothers Hennie and Charles du Plessis 4&3.

“EP has a bye today, so it’s absolutely crucial for us to get a big win today,” said Sole.

“We need to try and win all out games, in case it comes down to games points between us and Eastern Province. The guys know the odds and everyone on the team is committed to get us the best result possible.”

North West, who trail KwaZulu-Natal by three points, is equally determined to score big in both their matches today and will take a 3-1 lead against both Border and Free State into the singles.

The match between Free State and Border ended in a stalemate with two wins a piece.
