KwaZulu-Natal crushed North West in their A-Section opener at the 2015 South African Mid-Amateur Inter-Provincial, while Eastern Province whipped Limpopo and host province Border edged out Free State to get their B-Section promotion campaigns off to a flying start at East London Golf Club on Monday.

A-SECTION
Ekurhuleni got their title defence underway with a tidy 7 – 5 result against Gauteng North, Central Gauteng pocketed two points with 7.5 – 4.5 win over Western Province, but it was KwaZulu-Natal who stormed to the top of the log on games points after handing North West a drubbing.

KwaZulu-Natal carried a 3 – 1 lead into the Singles and Keith Forde set the tone for the afternoon games when he eliminated Patrick Sefodi 8 & 7.

Further victories from Clive Lazarus, Corne van Deventer, Bradley Davison, David Brown and Lyall McNeil handed the coastal side a 9 – 3 triumph.

Ekkurhuleni also won three Foursomes games, and Even MacKenszie, Hugo Delport and Jaco Rall took their tally to six points.

Kelso Hannay, Jauqo Jacobs and Pieter Cooper countered for Gauteng North, but halves from Brian Peterson and Jan Delport secured the two point win for the 2014 champions.

Central Gauteng and Western Province started the Singles all square and the matched stayed deadlocked when Kevin Sharp defeated Province’s Greg Sheard 4 & 3, and Gerlou Roux took Gauteng’s Steve Williams by the same margin.

The score was 4-all after wins from Central’s Wendell Bossenger and Ludwig Schreuder from Western Province.
Then Sean Quigley, David Muller and Ryan Dreyer won in quick succession to secure the win for Gauteng and Neil Homann from Central added the half point after squaring against Weyers Janse van Rensburg.

B-SECTION
Eastern Province and Boland share pole position on the log after both teams came through the opening round with two victories apiece.

Eastern Province just managed to edge out Southern Cape 6.5 – 5.5, but roared to an overwhelming victory against Limpopo.

Having taken a 3 – 1 lead in the Foursomes, Johnny Ludick, Edwin Mackays, Johan Louis Vorster, David Konzani, Attie Burger, Mzuyanda Zingela, Michael Holden and Christian Pienaar pounded Limpopo to secure a 10 – 2 win for Eastern Province.

However, Boland defeated Mpumalanga 8.5 – 3.5 and downed Northern Cape 8 – 4 to tie Eastern Province with four points and 16.5 games points.

Brian Lottering was looking for a solid opening performance from Border against Free State and his eight charges did not disappoint.

Border secured a 3 – 1 lead in Foursomes, Jaco Marais, Udesh Pillay, Nico Joubert and Sean Coetzee stretched their advantage to seven points.

Patrick Ludick and Sunil Pillay halved against Lourens Erasmus and Nico Reyneke respectively to seal an 8 – 4 victory.

Meanwhile Southern Cape took the sting out of the loss against Eastern Province with a resounding 8.5 – 3.5 win against Limpopo, while Northern Cape suffered a second defeat at the hands of Mpumalanga, who took the match 8.5 – 3.5.
