Frittelli leading amateur in Joburg Open

15 Jan 2010

Dylan Frittelli, left, with Freddie Tait Cup and SA Open winner Scot RamsayA fine 68, three under par, by nineteen year old Dylan Frittelli made him the leading amateur after yesterday’s first round of the Joburg Open being played at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.

The Irene Country Club member recorded five birdies and a double drop, which came at the 13th hole, a par three, on the venue’s West Course layout. Frittelli, who is currently a student at the University of Texas and is enjoying the last of his break before returning to his studies, is tied on forty first place.

In all there are 210 golfers participating on two golf course in the professional golf tournament sanctioned by both the Sunshine and European Tours. On conclusion of the second round, which is played today, the leading 65 players and ties go through to the final two rounds.

The winner of the Freddie Tait Cup, as the leading amateur in last month’s South African Open, Frittelli will be looking for another good round to ensure that makes the cut again.

There are two other amateurs in the field. Emmanuel Masoliedza (79) and Muswalo Nethunzwi (81) who are enjoying the experience of rubbing shoulders with some of the best exponents of the game in this country and Europe. With the cut expected to be around two under par, both players look unlikely to be playing over the weekend.

Leading the Joburg Open is Neil Schietekat who recorded a nine under par 62.
