Ryan Dreyer won the first Mid-Amateur Open for the 2016 season when he defeated Elton James and Neil Fusedale in a play-off for the Central Gauteng Mid-Amateur Open title at Ruimsig Country Club in January.

Dreyer from Killarney Country Club carded rounds of 70 and 69 to tie James from Westlake Golf Club (68-71) and Fusedale from Kyalami Country Club (72-67) on five-under-par 139.

The former Sanlam SA Amateur champion clinched the victory with a birdie at the first play-off hole.
