Mansfield hopes to double down in Western Cape

KwaZulu-Natal’s Clayton Mansfield has shifted his sights to the Western Province Amateur this week after he bagged his first provincial title in wire-to-wire style at Stellenbosch Golf Club on Friday.
“You gain a different kind of confidence with that first big win,” said 22-year-old from Durban Country Club after he closed out a five stroke victory in the Boland Amateur Open on a winning total of 14-under-par 202.

Third time’s a charm as Niemans wins Junior Invitational

Joaquin Niemann from Chile celebrated his third start in the Junior Invitational with a four stroke victory over American Austin Eckroat at the Sage Valley Golf Club.
The Chilean carded rounds of 67, 70 and 67 to triumph on 204 and don the prized Gold Jacket as the prestigious junior championship’s second international champion after 2015 winning Marcus Kinhult from Sweden.

Higgo makes struggling start at Junior Invitational

South Africa’s Garrick Higgo battled a balky putter in the first round of the prestigious Junior Invitational in in Graniteville, South Carolina. The Boland junior carded three bogeys on the front nine at Sage Valley Golf Club and pencilled two more on the back nine alongside a birdie at the par five 15th for a seven-over-par 79.

Jayden Schaper from Ebotse became only the fourth player to earn the rare double in the 29 year history of the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Championship.
In adding his name to very short list that includes Richard Sterne (1999), Dylan Frittelli (2008) and Zander Gous (2013), the 16-year-old Ekurhuleni golfer had to defeat reigning Sanlam SA Amateur champion Christo Lamprecht. Twice.

A strategic move on the final hole at Gowrie Farm Golf Estate paid off handsomely for Amilkar Bhana, who defeated Carl Mwale and Jordon Duminy for the Gowrie SA U-15 Challenge title on Wednesday.
Bhana – who won the Individual Competition at the Nomads SA Boys U-13 Championship in October last year – triumphed by one shot on even-par 213 after he two-putted the last for an even-par 70.
