Sheard wins Ekurhuleni Mid-Amateur

Greg Sheard, of Western Province, won the first Mid-Amateur tournament of the year at State Mines Golf Club on Sunday, 20 February 2011.

Sheard (pictured with Ekurhuleni President Martin Saaiman (left) and Craig Roberts of Volvo(right), the tournament sponsor) flew up from Cape Town especially to play in the tournament. Sheard was not sure what to expect from a golf course that he has never played. He was pleasantly surprised by the golf course and the newly renovated club house which makes for a pleasant all around golf experience.

With rounds of 68 and 71 and a 5 under par total Greg pipped both Steven Williams and new comer to Mid-Amateur golf, Tyrol Auret (who turned 35 the day before the tournament),  by one shot. Three shots behind Williams and Auret and on a score of one under par were Hugo Delport, Lee Johnson and David Muller.
