The North West team completed their winning march for A-Section glory at this year’s SA Country Districts, scoring their fourth successive victory at Upington Golf Club on Friday.

The North West team claimed all eight points on offer and lifted the title of the prestigious team competition ahead of Mpumalanga after scoring a 7-5 win against Ekurhuleni in the final round.

It was down to the singles after the foursomes ended in a 2-all draw, but Stephen Allen, Hugo Malan, Henk Pretorius, Wade Jacobs and Danie Van Niekerk stepped up to secure the glory for North West with victories in the singles.

Mpumalanga held on to the second spot in the final log with a 7-5 victory against defending champions Free State & Northern Cape.

Despite the final round defeat, Ekurhuleni held on for third on the final log, finishing on four points, two behind Mpumalanga and one ahead of the Free State side.

Having scored no points in this year’s event, KwaZulu-Natal will have to tee it up in the B-Division next year after a feisty Boland team fought their way back into the big league.

Just 12 months after their demotion, the Winelands team executed a well-laid plan to near perfection, not losing a single match in their promotion campaign. Boland put the screws on the Eastern Province with a 9.5 – 5.5 victory in the final round to end their week at the top of the log with 10 points.

Karoo finished in second and just two points adrift after a 7.5 – 5.5 win over Southern Cape, while the Garden Route side took third spot with six points.
