The North West Province was the only team to open their 2013 South African Junior Interprovincial campaign at Paarl Golf Club with a clean sweep on Monday.

Having missed A-Section qualifying by an agonising one point last year, the North West team began their tournament they way they mean to beating Limpopo and the Free State & Northern Cape sides 4-0 in the morning foursomes.

“We narrowly missed qualifying for the A-Section last year, so you could say that we are on a mission this week,” said manager Johnny van den Berg. “I’ve got eight very determined young charges who want to make sure they finish top of the log this week.”

In the other B-Section matches, Free State & Northern Cape lead Limpopo 3-1 and Boland lead Mpumalanga 2.5-1.5. Southern Cape halved both their matches against Mpumalanga and Boland.

The A-Section foursomes saw defending champions Western Province, Gauteng North and Central Gauteng all take a solid lead into the singles.

Province are 3-1 up on KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng North has a 3-1 edge on Ekurhuleni and Central Gauteng lead Eastern Province by the same margin.
