Nomads SA Boys U17 Day 3

27 Jun 2012

David Meyers

The 3rd day of the NOMADS SA Boys U17 Stroke Play saw 15 year old David Meyers from Central Gauteng surge through the field with a brilliant 4 under par 68. Another near perfect golfing day greeted players at the tough Pretoria Country Club layout.

David started his round with a par 4 at the 1st hole, rated the toughest opening hole in the country, birdies at the par four 2nd and 7th , an eagle at the 467 metre par five 4th but a drop shot at the 5th resulting in a fine 33 for the first nine. David started the 2nd nine in great fashion with birdies at the 10th and 11th, adding another birdie at the 15th but drop shots at the 13th and 18th  completed a well compiled round of golf. Lying 4 shots behind in second position is Mpumalanga’s Xander Basson with Darin de Smidt, who led after the first two days, managing a 79 to lie in 3rd position, 6 shots behind the leader.

Today was another tough scoring day, besides the outstanding round of David Meyers, Alwyn Griebenow (Eastern Province) recorded a level par 72.

In the team event Gauteng North A (1155) maintained their lead over Mpumalanga (1178) with Gauteng North B (1191) 3rd and Limpopo (1200) 4th.

Pretoria Country Club has been a tough experience for many of the junior golfers with the lessons learnt hopefully being of value in their future golfing careers.
