Nomads SA Boys U17 Day 2

26 Jun 2012

Paul Boshoff

After the 2nd round of the NOMADS SA Boys U17 Stroke Play Championship taking place at Pretoria Country Club the leaderboard is congested with a number of players within striking distance. A 2 over par 74 to go with his 72 of yesterday sees Darin de Smidt (Central Gauteng) a joint leader with Paul Boshoff (Gauteng North). Paul compiled a fine 71 to-day after yesterday’s 75. To-day saw a vastly  improved scoring performance with three players breaking par.

After his struggling 81 of yesterday, SA Boys U19 Stroke Play champion Tristen Strydom, bounced back with a fine 71 to be only 6 shots behind the leaders. In joint 3rd place is Western Province’s Meyer Pauw, on 147 (75 & 72) with Ekurhuleni’s Jason Froneman (73 & 74). A further shot back on 148 is Mpumalanga’s Xander Basson (77 & 71) and Limpopo’s Hennie du Plessis (75 & 73).

One of the pre tournament favourites, Gauteng North’s James du Preez, lies in a distant 41st position after rounds of 78 & 82.

The team section is also tightly bunched with Gauteng North (775) leading Mpumalanga (781) by 6 shots. Gauteng North B (785) is 3rd with Limpopo (789) 4th.

To-morrow promises to be a great day of junior golf.
